Nicole presents an invited talk at the Workshop on Fundamental Physics of Ferroelectrics and Related Materials in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Research in the Benedek group is focused on using a combination of crystal chemistry, symmetry principles and Density Functional Theory calculations to connect material properties to bonding and physical mechanisms, with a particular emphasis on the ionic and thermal transport properties of complex oxides for energy applications. Our goal is to use advances in the fundamental understanding of transport mechanisms to create design rules for new materials with enhanced or targeted properties. We are pursuing these ideas through three main research thrusts, described further in Research.
